At least I have a good reason for purchasing a "new" vehicle (it's actually a 2006 model). The Honda Hybrid had 100,300 miles and in October we had to spend $1300 for a new electric battery. When I took it in over the Christmas holidays for its 100,000 mile check-up I was told that it needed 2 new catylitic converters or it wouldn't pass the next emissions test (due in June) and each converter cost $900! I couldn't see putting another $1800 into a car with that many miles on it, and decided trading it in now was the best option before it had even more mileage on it. Click here to see a slide show of my MINI and here if you want to see it with smaller photos but music included by the Doobie Brothers!

Evidence of My Mid-Life Crisis

why'd you choose a mini?
Cute! Andy likes Mini Coopers too, I think. What's a Shwoopes? Sure looks like it's in good shape. Congratulations!
Pretty red! Katie used to have a yellow and black mini that looked like a taxicab. Did you ever see hers? All those gadgets in front could be a Star Trek control panel, no? Enjoy!!!
Thank you all for utilizing the comments section - sometimes I get lonely on this blog :-)
Jessica, it was a matter of love at first drive. I actually had narrowed it down to the Nissan Versa, Mazda 3, and Kia Rio after doing my research. I wanted something small that would fit in the garage easily with the Santa Fe. And I wanted a manual transmission because I've missed driving a stick. I went to test a Kia Rio that was advertised as manual trans, but it was actually automatic. The only stick he had on the lot was the MINI. It was so fun to drive I decided I wanted it. But, no. I did not do an emotional buy. I left the dealer to do my research and found it had good reviews from the critics and consumers. I went to 3 other dealerships and looked at what they had before I settled on this one.
Denise, a Swoopes is a former WNBA Comets basketball superstar. It was my feeble attempt at humor. Cooper was another superstar on the Comets.
Lori, I do remember seeing Katie's and Xander (that would be Bobby to most of you - I never know what to call him: Bob, Bobby, Robert - so when he & Ocean came over last night I told him I was going to revert to what you called him as a baby) said she had totaled it. And yes, it does look Trekkish. It took me awhile to figure out where the door handle was! I've read the Owner's Manual (something I always do from cover to cover when I get a vehicle) and now know what each little doohickey is for ;-)
I was planning to ask if it is as much fun to drive as it looks like it would be, but you answered my question. I think they are so cute. Love the red! Judy
